In 2003 Rolling Stone magazine writer David Fricke proposed the idea of an issue dedicated entirely to the greatest guitarists of all time to his editors. They approved his idea, on the conditions that the list should be of 100 different guitarists and they must be ranked. After releasing his list, Fricke said “In the end, I looked at it this way: Jimi Hendrix was Number One in every way; the other 99 were all Number Two.” The issue was a hit, and in 2011 Rolling Stone decided to release an updated list of the same topic. However, this time the list wasn’t comprised of one man’s opinions. This time more than 50 legendary musicians and ten experienced writers each voted on who should be ranked where. Despite the additional aspects of more voters and nearly another decade since Jimi passed, Hendrix withstood the tests of time and others opinions as he once again took the number one spot, continuing his reign as Rolling Stone’s top guitarist of all time.

Here at Vintage 329 we are pretty big Hendrix fans ourselves, and we commemorate him with a small collection of autographed items that would look spectacular in any man cave. Our collection includes an album, a framed Hit Parader magazine, a guitar, and a framed drum head signed by Hendrix and the members of his band. The album is the first ever released by the Jimi Hendrix Experience titled Are You Experienced? Astonishingly, the relatively unknown band’s first album climbed all the way to number 2 on the UK charts, trailing only “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” of already established and well known Beatles. The Experience would go on to release two more albums, but neither one has been able to compare to Are You Experienced? over the years.

Although we don’t know when the next Rolling Stone top 100 guitarists of all time issue will be released, it is pretty safe to say that unless a new god of guitar emerges and is able to captivate this generation in the way that Hendrix has captivated the last three generations, Hendrix will be atop that list as well. For that reason (as well as it just being awesome) owning a Hendrix item can only get better and better for you. So if you are as big of Hendrix fans as we are, have a man cave with an empty spot on the wall, or just want to own something signed by the greatest guitar of all time, look through our website and check out our collection of Hendrix items that could be the next piece of your collection.

As with most events and seasons here in New Orleans we like to celebrate in the biggest and most memorable way possible, and the winter holidays are no different. Starting immediately after Thanksgiving, New Orleans becomes a non stop Winter Wonderland. Beginning on December 2nd and continuing until New Years Day, New Orleans’ historic City Park is transformed into a 12 acre adventure of illuminated decorations known as Celebration in the Oaks. Activities include classics such as the “Dripping Snow” tree which is covered in more than 40,000 lights, and also an ice skating rink for the kids. Check out http://celebrationintheoaks.com/cito10/ for details and directions.

What would a New Orleans celebration be without a parade? On December 3rd at 1 pm following the opening of Celebration in the Oaks, the annual Krewe of Jingle Parade will be coming back to Canal street, complete with dancing elves, marching bands, and many holiday themed floats. After the parade make your way over to the Roosevelt Hotel for the Jingle Mingle after party for food, music, and drinks. New Orleans already has The Red Dress Run and the Running of the Bulls, what would the holidays be without another running installment? Enter the Running of the Santas on December 17th. Where else but New Orleans could you see thousands of people dressed up like Santa running through the city?

‘Tis the season to be jolly, so why not spend your holidays celebrating in the most festive city in the country. Whether you prefer to come for the lights, for the parades, or just don’t mind walking down bourbon street in the cold, we would love to have you! For more information and a complete schedule, go to http://www.neworleansonline.com/, New Orleans official event website.

Its finally started getting cold here in the Big Easy and the Holidays are right around the corner. Whatever it may be that you celebrate, we have something special here for you. To make sure that the season is perfect for you and your family, we are offering a wonderful discount deal. However many days that are left until 2012 on the date of your purchase, that number will be the discount percentage we will be offering to you (for example December 1st = 30% discount, December 21st = 10% discount, etc.), so get your gift shopping done early this year and save!

In some cases it can be rather difficult to decide which one of our many fabulous items is the right one for you, so in hopes of making your decision easier for you I’m going to offer a few suggestions. You can never go wrong with classic novels, books that have been read and cherished by millions for over half of a century, and eventually made into popular movies. My first choice is the novel that started one of the most popular film franchises of all time, telling the action packed stories of the British spy that every man wants to be and every woman wants to be with, James Bond. This copy of Ian Fleming’s original Bond book, Casino Royale, is signed and is a First American Edition. Fleming wrote Casino Royale in 1953 and our favorite secret agent never looked back from there. Seeing as this is obviously an “offer that you can’t refuse”, I see it fitting that I suggest this classic book. This first edition autographed copy of “The Godfather”, written by Mario Puzo, is the novel that later led to the creation of not only the greatest mafia movie ever made, but perhaps the greatest trilogy ever made. The Godfather trilogy received many awards, including Oscars, Golden Globes, and consistent rankings in the top 3 of the American Film Institute’s “top 100 movies of the last 100 years”.

Whether your family member prefers James Bond, Vito Corleone, or any other character that our items commemorate, treat them to something they will always remember this holiday season, and don’t forget to buy it early and save!!!

Here in Louisiana, we love our Louisiana State University Tigers. Every Saturday the that the Bayou Bengals bring home another win is like Christmas all over again to Louisianians. Thus far this season the Tigers have been doing us proud as they sit atop the national rankings and seem to be positioned to head to the National Championship Game. It is no coincidence that I happen to be writing this article on the day of the so called “Game of the Century” as LSU faces off against #2 Alabama tonight in Tuscaloosa. You might just say that I have voodoo superstition, but this very rare (#34/40) painting by by Rick Rush titled “Defense Dictating Victory” depicting the Tigers winning the National Championship gives me a good feeling about tonight. Rick Rush was recently named the 2011 Sport Artist of the Year by the United States Sports Academy and its American Sport Art Museum & Archives. You can relive the glory that LSU fans feel after every victory with this beautiful piece, and maybe even bring some good voodoo to the Tigers in the future.

For nearly half of a century America and the former Soviet Union had been rivals for greatness. There was the Space Race, there was the Cold War, and there was hockey. Named “The Top Sports Moment of the 20th Century” by Sports Illustrated, the “Miracle on Ice” at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York was and still remains one of the pinnacles of American Pride. Prior the 1980 Olympics, the Soviet Union had won the gold medal in hockey in 6 of the last 7 Olympic games. The Soviet team was comprised of highly trained world class athletes. The American team was made up of college kids, mostly due to the fact that NHL players were not allowed to compete in the Olympics at that time. The Americans brought in coach Herb Brooks to put together the team because of his reputation as a tough coach who refuses to lose, something the American team would desperately need if they wanted to have any chance of being competitive at Lake Placid. Brooks trained the team rigorously for the games, and they did better than most expected through the early games. But the world knew that the only game that really mattered was the upcoming match with the Soviets. Only a fool would have expected an American victory would be the outcome of the game, and as the match started the world thought that they were going to be proven right. The Soviets physically dominated the Americans in every aspect of the game. Brooks was not ready to quit though. With his determination and belief in his players, he led the team to a come from behind 4-3 victory, accompanied by the infamous cry of Al Michaels, “DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? YES!!!” The team went on to defeat Iceland in the next game to win the Gold, but no victory had ever been sweeter. We honor this great moment in American and Sports History with a photograph that was featured on the ensuing Sports Illustrated issue capturing the excitement of the players when the clock hit zero. The picture is signed by the entire 1980 American Hockey Team.

It’s finally Halloween weekend and a great time for you to take a short break from planning your costume or stocking up on candy to hand out to trick or treaters so you can take a look at some of our special spooky items. First we have a special edition (#50/100) movie script for perhaps the most classic monster movie that is still recognized worldwide today, Frankenstein. Released in 1931, the movie Frankenstein is based on Mary Shelley’s novel of the same name. The film was originally thought of as one of the most grotesque movies ever made due to his murder scenes in which he strangles and drowns his victims (the definition of a grotesque movie sure has changed). The film is on several top 100 movies of all time lists, as well is the line “Its alive!” in many greatest quotes rankings. The script is signed by Philip Riley, Michael Stein, Forrest Ackerman & Gregory Mank. It was intended to be signed by Mae Clark, who played the fiancee of Dr. Frankenstein in the film, but regretfully she passed away prior to the signing.

In the early times of radio and television programs, when families would gather around to watch or listen together for entertainment, the Twilight Zone was the pinnacle of horror shows. Created by Rod Serling, the supernatural stories of the Twilight Zone sent chills throughout America for years. The Twilight Zone is thought to be the original American psychological thriller that appeared in a television series form rather then a feature film. Serling went on to write many other shows and books, but no other work ever gained the fame that the Twilight Zone had. This book, titled “Twilight Zone Revisited” is a continuation of the once great series. It would be an excellent addition to any thrill seekers collection.

What woman doesn’t love beautiful ONE OF A KIND jewelry? I am pleased to present to you this collection of antique 1920′s Czechoslovakian glass necklaces and earrings.A fabulous factory find in the North of the Czech Republic, these necklaces and earrings were made in between 1924 and 1926 in a prominent Czech glass factory. Each piece is completely one of a kind and painstakingly handmade. A combination of jeweler’s brass and handmade, world famous Czechoslovakian glass, each piece is designed to accentuate the colorful and meticulous glass work alongside the beauty of its wearer. The entire collection was recently discovered, still wrapped in its original tissue and boxes, by the woman who inherited the land that the factory sat on. The whip lashed curves, art nouveau motifs and King Tut imagery take you back to the heyday of the mid-20’s, when decadence and beauty were paramount.

Easily one of the most recognizable posters in the music industry, this framed poster exemplifies rock ‘n’ roll. The scene features six nude women at the edge of a pool with the album covers of six different Pink Floyd albums painted on their backs. The body paint was done by artist Phyllis Cohen and the poster is signed by band members David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Roger Wright. Pink Floyd was formed in 1965, and through the death of band members and multiple breakups and rejoining again they have managed to continue to play the occasional concert together today. The band has sold over 200 million albums worldwide and is said to be top of the line when it comes to live performers. Pink Floyd has been loved for nearly half a decade internationally, knowing no language or generational barriers. The members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Some gifts really do last for a life time, and we have the timeless treasures to prove it. Treat your special someone to something spectacular this upcoming holiday season with a gift they will never forget, an authentic autographed piece of history that they will cherish. Certain items know no generational or technological bounds. A perfect example of such an item is an original signed by the author American classic novel. I’d like to take a little time to tell you about a few of the new books we have in the gallery that would make excellent gifts to any friend or family member.

Stephen King is the highest selling horror writer of all time and many of his books have been converted into Hollywood movies. Any horror/classic novel fan has heard of Stephen King, and his stories will be around for a long time to come. There is almost no other competition when it comes to truly great and well written psychological thrillers, so thrill your friend or family member with an authentic autographed Stephen King novel this holiday season.

Another great book we currently have in stock is a first edition, limited edition, “Bagombo Snuff Box” by Kurt Vonnegut. It is #148 of 175 in the limited 1999 edition. The book is a collection of short stories by the author, some of which actually appeared in his books dating back to the 1950′s. The majority of the reused stories remain unchanged, although he did rewrite three of the stories which he was previously “unsatisfied with”. The book was a hit here in America seeing as Vonnegut already had such a high number of fans due to his other works, Vonnegut fans went crazy over the chance to look back at his earliest writings. Vonnegut had many other greatly successful novels, including “Slaughterhouse Five”, “Cat’s Cradle”, and “Breakfast of Champions”. Vonnegut passed away on April 11, 2007 at the age of 84.
